Rio’s back issues

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

With Manchester United’s dismal defensive displays this season they are desperate to get Rio Ferdinand back playing week in week out. Although they haven’t lost yet this season they have managed to ship eleven goals in just eight games.
So far the defender has started just two of United’s games this season against Scunthorpe United, in the Carling Cup, and Rangers in the Champions League. He was supposed to start both against Liverpool and Bolton but he was withdrawn due to fears of each game being too physical and therefore risking further injury.
Sir Alex Ferguson has now taken a further precaution with Rio during the teams flight to Spain on Tuesday. During the flight Rio stood up for virtually the whole time and when he did sit down he had the assistance of a booster seat.
Apparently the booster seat travels with him all the time whilst it was considered standing up during the flight would put less pressure on his back.
As bizarre as it sounds it must have worked because United beat Valencia 1-0 to claim their first Champions League victory this term. The result also puts them top of Group C.

Signing players you’ve never even watched play!

Friday, September 24th, 2010

During the recent transfer window Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp signed players that they admittedly never went to watch.
The more publicised of the two is Manchester United’s capture of the Portuguese player Bebe. Sir Alex has openly admitted that he hadn’t watched the player before handing over £7 million.
The player had only just signed for his former club Vitoria Guimaraes, in Portugal, last month and not long before that had been playing for a team in the Portuguese homeless league. So, taking this into consideration United’s punt is one hell of a gamble.
Harry Redknapp is the second Manager to follow suit after he snapped up Brazilian starlet Sandros after only hearing positive vibes from his chief scout Ian Broomfield, along with videos.
Both players made their debuts this week in the Carling Cup and both their respective Managers breathed a sigh of relief as each player impressed.

Togo’s fake team

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Whilst listening to talksport this afternoon I heard an amusing strange story about the international friendly between Bahrain and Togo (or what was supposed to be Togo).
The match, which was played in Bahrain, was arranged by the the BFA (the Bahrain Football Association) who claim that they went through the correct channels to organise the friendly.
However, the Togo Football Federation have announced that they didn’t sanction such a game and that they knew nothing about it. The BFA have said that the players that turned up, supposedly representing Togo, weren’t recognisable and lacking in quality and fitness. Most of the player couldn’t even last 90 minutes.
It now looks like that the agent which was contacted by the BFA to arrange the match was not licensed, although he’s probably a little richer now. The questions is, if the players were not Togolese internationals who and where were they from?
Fifa does allow national teams to arrange their own friendlies and has so far refused to comment on the match which ended in 3-0 win for Bahrain.

Footballers cheating……on their partners!

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

After the news of John Terry sleeping with the wife of a team mate, which broke just before this summers World Cup, now comes more infidelity from Wayne Rooney and Peter Crouch.
After admitting sleeping with prostitutes in 2004, one of which was a 48-year old grandmother, it is has now been reported that Rooney has had series of romps with a £1,200-a-time hooker whilst his wife Coleen was pregnant with their son Kai.
Wayne has apparently bedded vice girl Jenny Thompson, 21, on a number of occasions over several months. He also bombarded her with text messages and wads of cash as well as having a threesome with the hooker and one of her friends.

Another player recently accused of cheating on his partner with a prostitute is Peter Crouch.
The 19-year old teenage girl, who calls herself Monica Mint, claims Crouch paid her £800 for liaisons in the back of a taxi and at an £80-a-night hotel.
To add fuel to the fire Crouch’s model fiancée Abbey Clancy has announced that she’s pregnant with his child.

It appears that professional footballers have too much time on their hands are overpaid and have a severe lack of morals. That’s no surprise though is it!!

England climb FIFA rankings

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Its hard to believe having watched all of England’s games at the World Cup (all four of them) but they have actually climbed up one place in the FIFA rankings.
Having been thrashed 4-1 by Germany and being knocked out of the World Cup, a performance which has officially been recognised as their worst in the competition, you would have thought that England would have dropped places instead of rising to seventh.
Although England’s performances were bad, Italy and France fared even worse. The Italians have seen their position fall six places to eleventh while the French have dropped twelve places to 21st.
Other changes in the rankings saw Spain jump to first, Holland moved up to second and Brazil dropped to third.
New Zealand were the biggest movers after climbing 24 places to 54th. They failed to lose a single group game at the World Cup although this achievement wasn’t enough to qualify for the knockout stage.
