Rio’s back issues
Thursday, September 30th, 2010With Manchester United’s dismal defensive displays this season they are desperate to get Rio Ferdinand back playing week in week out. Although they haven’t lost yet this season they have managed to ship eleven goals in just eight games.
So far the defender has started just two of United’s games this season against Scunthorpe United, in the Carling Cup, and Rangers in the Champions League. He was supposed to start both against Liverpool and Bolton but he was withdrawn due to fears of each game being too physical and therefore risking further injury.
Sir Alex Ferguson has now taken a further precaution with Rio during the teams flight to Spain on Tuesday. During the flight Rio stood up for virtually the whole time and when he did sit down he had the assistance of a booster seat.
Apparently the booster seat travels with him all the time whilst it was considered standing up during the flight would put less pressure on his back.
As bizarre as it sounds it must have worked because United beat Valencia 1-0 to claim their first Champions League victory this term. The result also puts them top of Group C.
